Almeyda quits as River Plate coach

Matias Almeyda has quit his post as coach of Argentine giants River Plate.

Almeyda helped guide the club to promotion after their shock relegation to the second tier for the first time last year.

“My cycle at River has finished,” said Almeyda. “I’d like to return one day as coach or director.

“For me it was an honour to coach River, I have no regrets. Today I can leave River without lowering my head.”
