Ambition, not money, key for Rooney

Wayne Rooney hit back today following Alex Ferguson’s comments on Tuesday about his desire to leave Manchester United.

The embattled striker said in a public statement that “I met with David Gill last week and he did not give me any of the assurances I was seeking about the future squad…for me its all about winning trophies, as the club has always done under Sir Alex. Because of that I think the questions I was asking were justified.”

Rooney admitted that he told Gill that he would not be renewing his contract, and speculation will now intensify as to the next stop in the 24 year old’s career.
