Hinkel’s current contract with Celtic is set to expire at the end of the season.
The defender is not expected to feature for Celtic again due to his knee problem, that will keep him out of action for the rest of the season.
“My contract is up at Celtic in the summer and I will probably go back to the Bundesliga,” the 28-year-old is quoted as saying by Stv.tv.
“I am very busy with my rehabilitation and am doing well. I am an incredibly positive person and have a good feeling I will be back fitter than ever.”
“When I do [come back], I hope to catch the eye of Joachim Loew,” Hinkel added. “It might be time for me to get back in Germany’s side.”
