Blues boss Carlo Ancelotti has targeted Modric as the man he wants to bring in to strengthen his midfield, according to the Daily Star.
Modric has also been linked with a move to Manchester United in recent weeks, but reports suggest that he would prefer to stay in London.
Ancelotti is ready to allow both Deco and Joe Cole to leave the club, should he manage to sign Modric.
