De Sanctis retires from internationals

Morgan de Sanctis has announed his retirement from international duty after Italy’s 2-0 win over Malta.

The Napoli goalkeeper hinted that his age was a factor in his retirement, and joked that he made the decision after consulting rival Gianluigi Buffon.

“Last night I spoke to Gigi Buffon, who told me he intends to play on for another 10 years, so I gave up! The truth is I spoke to the Coach and my teammates, and at my age you evaluate things and it is best to leave space for new faces.”
