Premier League preview - Week 37

Published: 10.05.13 / Written by: David Gold

Key battles, players to watch and talking points, check out our preview of the Premier League action this week!

Aston Villa v Chelsea

Key Battle: Christian Benteke and Eden Hazard have both been in great form of late and these two sides’ respective Belgian summer signings could be key here.

Player to Watch: Juan Mata is dominating games for Chelsea at the moment and his importance cannot be understated.

Talking Point: A win will do for these sides’ ambitions – Villa to survive and Chelsea to get into the Champions League.

Prediction: 1-1

Stoke v Tottenham

Key Battle: Ryan Shawcross will be trying to prevent a rejuvenated Emmanuel Adebayor scoring after the Togolese’s remarkable display against Chelsea.

Player to Watch: Gareth Bale, who else? The Welshman’s virtuoso brilliance has driven Spurs forward and he can be the key man here.

Talking Point: Tottenham desperately need three points to keep their hopes of a top four finish alive – but Stoke are a tough nut to crack.

Prediction: 1-2

Everton v West Ham

Key Battle: Leighton Baines can threaten down the left and will give George McCartney plenty to worry about in this game.

Player to Watch: Marouane Fellaini will want to impress David Moyes if he wants to be signed by him at Manchester United this summer.

Talking Point: After an illustrious spell in charge, David Moyes’ reign as Everton manager will come to an end in this game – it could be an emotional afternoon.

Prediction: 2-0

Fulham v Liverpool

Key Battle: Bryan Ruiz is the Fulham dangerman and he will battle to be the dominant playmaker in this clash against Liverpool’s Coutinho.

Player to Watch: Daniel Sturridge has impressed since signing for Liverpool in January, and he can continue his good form in London.

Talking Point: Fulham are still not entirely safe in the battle against the drop and will want to ensure they get three points if necessary.

Prediction: 1-3

Norwich v West Brom

Key Battle: Grant Holt and Romelu Lukaku could be the key battle here, two powerful forwards battling to drive their teams forward.

Player to Watch: Robert Snodgrass provides so many of Norwich’s goals and chances that he will be pivotal in this game.

Talking Point: Norwich need to win to edge themselves towards safety, but West Brom have not stopped playing despite having little to play for.

Prediction: 1-0

QPR v Newcastle

Key Battle: Papiss Cisse and Loic Remy are both technical and powerful forwards who can make something happen almost out of nothing.

Player to Watch: Yohan Cabaye is the man who drives Newcastle forward and if he is on form he can guide them to victory.

Talking Point: A second chance to win in London inside a week for Newcastle as they look to try and secure survival.

Prediction: 0-2

Sunderland v Southampton

Key Battle: John O’Shea must battle hard to keep Rickie Lambert from influencing proceedings in this game – and that will be a tough ask.

Player to Watch: Morgan Schneiderlin is in superb form for Southampton and has been a key player for them in recent months.

Talking Point: Neither side is safe yet but Southampton have been playing good football and should have enough about them to win.

Prediction: 0-2

Man Utd v Swansea

Key Battle: The battle for midfield supremacy between the passers of Jonathan de Guzman and Michael Carrick could be key.

Player to Watch: Ryan Giggs may play his last game at Old Trafford under Alex Ferguson, in what promises to be an emotional afternoon.

Talking Point: What else is there to say other than this is Alex Ferguson’s last ever match in charge of Manchester United at Old Trafford. It will be an emotional afternoon.

Prediction: 2-0

Arsenal v Wigan

Key Battle: Santi Cazorla will hope to influence proceedings and drive Arsenal forward against a Wigan side for whom Shaun Maloney will be the key in midfield.

Player to Watch: Theo Walcott has two goals in his last two games, both very early on, and will look to make his mark fast again in this match.

Talking Point: Both sides need a win – Arsenal for their top four hopes and Wigan to avoid relegation. This is going to be a huge game.

Prediction: 2-1

Reading v Man City

Key Battle: Alex McCarthy will have another busy evening up against Manchester City and Carlos Tevez, who is sure to be driving the visitors forward.

Player to Watch: David Silva is City’s key man and he will be who they look to as they bid to end their season on a high.

Talking Point: With nothing riding on this game it could be an open and entertaining affair.

Prediction: 2-3
