Giggs’ most famous goal

April 14, 1999, Arsenal (Villa Park)

Ryan Giggs’ goal against Arsenal in the FA Cup was recently voted the best FA Cup goal of all-time. Giggs got the ball from Patrick Vieira and set off on a 60-yeard burst that saw him score an incredible goal. Giggsy scored the goal in extra time after Peter Schmeichel had saved a last-gasp penalty from Dennis Bergkamp.

Steve Bruce on Giggs

Sunderland boss and former United skipper Steve Bruce is one of many who have paid tribute to Giggs.

Bruce said: “He started in 1993 and where are we now, 2009? Jesus. And to play at the level he has been doing, he has to be the greatest ever player to have played in the Premier League.

“Not just because of his longevity but because he is playing for Manchester United and still getting man of the match awards.

“For me he is their best player, at his age as well. Also he blessed with that wonderful ability which gets people off their backsides.

“He’s such a natural, a natural dribbler; it is just effortless for him. It is easy for him. He is just a great, great player.

“That word is used too often but he has to be up there. If there was a poll of the greatest Premier League players I would think Ryan would be well up there.”

Sir Alex Ferguson on Ryan Giggs

“Whether dribbling or sprinting, Ryan can leave the best defenders with twisted blood”
