Hughes supposedly could not fulfil his ambitions at the club, though his record doesn’t suggest he is good enough to manage a top side in any case.
Roy Hodgson was able to get Fulham to the Europa League final the season before last, and it’s possible Hughes didn’t want to have to live up to those lofty expectations.
His agent Kia Joorabchian said: “He gave Fulham everything he possible could in [his] one year and he wanted to be honest with them, rather than them spend in the transfer window buying players that he would recommend and then he comes to leave in November or December or January – the middle of the year.”
