Juventus, Ajax and PSG close in on titles, Shakhtar win in Ukraine

They remain 11 points clear of Napoli, who beat Pescara 3-0, and the Bianconeri will win the league if they overcome Palermo next weekend. Elsewhere in Serie A AC Milan beat Catania 4-2 to remain in third place, ahead of Fiorentina, who claimed a 3-0 win at Sampdoria. Roma are up to fifth after a 4-0 win over Siena, with Udinese in sixth after winning 1-0 at Udinese. Inter Milan are stuck in seventh after a 1-0 defeat at Palermo, whilst Lazio drew 0-0 with Parma.

In the Netherlands Ajax beat NAC Breda 2-0 to move towards their third successive Dutch title. They will win the league next weekend with victory over Willem II. PSV’s 5-2 win over Gronigen looks in vain as Ajax pull closer to the title, as does Feyenoord’s 6-0 win over Heracles .Vitesse beat Willem II 3-1 and AZ beat Heerenveen 4-0. Twente won 5-2 against NEC.

Paris St Germain edge ever closer to the French title after they overcame Evian 1-0 in a fiery encounter. They stay nine points clear of Marseille, who won by the same score against Lorient. Lyon and St Etienne drew 1-1 to stay third and fourth, whilst Nice beat Troyes 3-1 and Lille let a 3-0 lead slip against Sochaux to draw 3-3. Ajaccio beat Montpellier 2-1.

In Ukraine Shakhtar Donetsk won the title after a 1-1 draw against Metalist Kharkhiv, in the third game they had not won all season. Dynamo Kiev beat Dnipro 2-0.

Barcelona’s title celebrations in Spain were delayed as they were held to a 2-2 draw by Athletic Bilbao. Combined with Real Madrid’s 2-1 win over Atletico Madrid, and that means Barcelona must wait for another week for the title to be won. Real Sociedad won 4-2 against Valencia to move closer to Champions League qualification. Malaga beat Getafe 2-1 to keep their hopes alive, whilst Real Valladolid drew 1-1 with Sevilla.

In the Premier League Manchester United drew 1-1 with Arsenal after having claimed the title last week. Manchester City beat West Ham 2-1, but Arsenal lost third place as Chelsea beat Swansea 2-0. Tottenham dropped vital points in a 2-2 draw with Wigan Athletic. Everton beat Fulham 1-0 and Liverpool crushed Newcastle 6-0. QPR and Reading drew 0-0, a result which relegated both sides.

In the Bundesliga Bayern Munich uncharacteristically struggled to a 1-0 win over Freiburg, whilst Borussia Dortmund beat Fortuna Dusseldorf 2-1. Both have crucial Champions League semi final second legs this week. Third place Bayer Leverkusen beat Werder Bremen 1-0, whilst Schalke remain fourth after crushing fellow Champions League hopefuls Hamburg 4-1. Eintracht Frankfurt drew 0-0 with Mainz and Borussia Moenchengladbach lost 3-1 to Wolfsburg as the chase for the top four intensifies.

In Portugal Porto won 2-0 against Vitoria de Setubal to maintain their unbeaten league record, but also unbeaten leaders Benfica remain ahead prior to their game on Monday night.

In Turkey Galatasaray remain seven points clear after they overcame Gaziantepspor 1-0, whilst Fenerbahce beat Kayserispor 2-1.CSKA Moscow lost 2-0 to Rubin Kazan in Russia, to see their lead cut to three points, although Zenit St Petersburg could not take full advantage as they drew 2-2 with Kuban. Anzhi Makhachkala lost 2-0 to Spartak Moscow.

Newell’s Old Boys went three points clear in Argentina as they beat Racing Club 4-3 in a thrilling encounter. River Plate stay third as they drew 1-1 with Quilmes. Independiente beat Argentinos Juniors 3-1.

In the USA Montreal Impact won 2-0 against Chicago Fire to go top of the Eastern Conference. Sporting Kansas City slip from first to third after losing 3-2 at home to Portland Timbers. New York Red Bulls are into second after a 2-1 win over Toronto. Dallas were held 2-2 by Vancouver in the Western Conference, and remain ahead of LA Galaxy, who beat Real Salt Lake 2-0.
