Long wait for Italy – Conte

Antonio Conte says Italian teams will have a long wait to return to the top table of European football after their Champions League defeat last night.

Juventus were swept aside by Bayern Munich and the Italian champions looked anything but potential winners of the competition.

“Today, I see teams like Real Madrid, Manchester City, Bayern Munich, Manchester United, Paris St Germain and Barcelona, clubs who have a lot of money, they can buy all the top players and in Italy the situation is different,” said Conte.

“I can’t see an Italian team winning the Champions League in the coming years.”
