It was announced on Wednesday that Guardiola would take over from Jupp Heynckes at the season’s end.
“After learning that [current Coach Jupp] Heynckes was retiring to be replaced by Guardiola I was pleased,” Martinez told Bayern’s official website.
“It will be good for me, for the team and for the Bundesliga. I know him from when I played against Barcelona with Athletic – and my teammates for the national all say very positive things about him.”
