Martinez must work for starting spot – Heynckes

Jupp Heynckes has said that Javi Martinez must work to find his way into the Bayern Munich first team.

Bayern face Mainz this weekend, but Heynckes was refusing to be drawn when asked if his 40 million euro signing would start.

“Obviously, from a footballing viewpoint he is a great asset for us but Javi still needs to work and fight his way into the team with performances,” Heynckes said.

“Who plays depends on a lot of things. I would not want to decide this now.”
