The 26-year-old has revealed that he was asked to join Queens Park Rangers in order for Marseille to reduce their wage bill.
Mbia signed a two-year contract when he joined Queens Park Rangers on deadline day.
“I didn’t want to go but the owner of the club made me understand I had to leave,” Mbia said in The Sun.
“The wage bill had to be reduced and certain players had to go.”
