Nani was one of a number of high profile players Zenit were chasing as they signed Hulk and Axel Witsel.
“We really were negotiating with Nani and Joao Moutinho, but Hulk and Witsel were our priorities. And it is important to understand that any transfer policy is based on a list of priorities”, said Mitrofanov.
“If Hulk had asked for €8M to €10M, these demands would have been unacceptable for Zenit. The signing of Nani was ruled out mainly for this reason, because he asked for a huge salary that we were not willing to pay.”
