Napoli rule out move for Barcelona midfielder

Napoli have ruled out making a move for Barcelona midfielder Javier Mascherano in the January transfer window.

Mascherano has long been linked with a move to link up with his former boss Rafa Benitez at Napoli. Mascherano worked with Benitez before at Liverpool.

Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis insists they will not make a move for Mascherano, but they are keeping tabs on Lyon midfielder Maxime Gonalons.

De Laurentiis told La Gazzetta dello Sport: “We are not interested in Mascherano and we are not looking to get him.

“Gonalons, instead, has the profile of a player we might like.”
