DeMerit wary of Man Utd striker

USA defender Jay DeMerit has admitted that it will be difficult to stop Wayne Rooney at the World Cup.

Rooney has impressed for United this season and will play a major role in England's bid to win the World Cup in South Africa.

England face USA in Group C of the World Cup finals.

"I'm not sure how you can really deal with Rooney, but we're going to have to if we're going to have any chance against England," DeMerit said in the Daily Mirror.

"With players like Rooney, the only thing you can do is just try to make it as difficult for them as possible.

"He has been phenomenal in the past few weeks and is getting better and better. He is really starting to come into his own.

"He has that confidence of being one of the world's best players and he is England's main threat."

He added. "I cannot wait to play against Wayne, but I'm really hoping that he has a huge dip in the summer and uses up all his goals before he plays us."
