Arsenal duo not in squad for Newcastle clash

Arsenal duo Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri are not in the Gunners' squad for Saturday's opening game against Newcastle United at St James' Park.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger admitted on Thursday that he wanted a decision on the futures of Fabregas and Nasri.

"That is completely the truth," said Wenger. "We hope it will be sorted out very quickly one way of the other. We’ll know very quickly.

"The Nasri situation is stable. Again it is very difficult to speak about possible transfers but we are in a situation where we have to make decisions one way or the other.

"Ideally you want it sorted out before the season starts."

Nasri has been linked with a move to Manchester City while Fabregas is expected to join Spanish giants Barcelona.
