Lille reject Newcastle bid for Chelsea and Inter target

Lille coach Rudi Garcia has confirmed they have rejected an £4million bid for France full-back Mathieu Debuchy from Newcastle.

The Magpies have been llinked with a move for Debuchy for months as they look to bring in a replacement for Danny Simpson, who is set to leave the club.

"He is torn between staying with us and playing in the Champions League in our new stadium or going elsewhere," admitted Garcia.

"If he does go and it is a sporting progression, then we will be happy to see him evolve - but we have not planned to replace him."

"But I do believe that Newcastle have faxed an offer of £4million - but they must have the wrong player," he joked.

Reports claim Lille are looking for around £6million for the highly-rated defender.

Debuchy have also been linked with the likes of Chelsea, Bayern Munich, Valencia and Inter Milan.
