Del Piero rejected Liverpool "because of Heysel"
A former agent of Alessandro del Piero says that the Italian rejected a move to Liverpool because of the Heysel disaster.
39 Juventus fans were killed when Liverpool fans breached a fence at the European Cup final in Belgium in 1985 - causing animosity between the two teams ever since.
Del Piero, a legend at Juventus after serving the club for 19 years and becoming their record goalscorer, has instead joined Sydney FC.
“I think as a real Juventino, out of respect and remembrance for the massacre at Heysel, he said no to Liverpool,” said Claudio Pasqualin on TMW.
