Sir Alex confirms: Rooney ask for move away from Man Utd

Sir Alex Ferguson confirms that Wayne Rooney has asked for a transfer away from Manchester United.

Rooney’s career at United seems all but over after he was booed by sections of the Old Trafford crowd when collecting his Premier League winners’ medal today.

Ferguson told MUTV: “Rooney has asked for a transfer request, but we have refused it.”

That was Rooney’s second transfer request in three years and the striker was left out of the United squad to face Swansea today.

Ferguson told Sky Sports: “I don’t think Wayne was keen to play simply because he has asked for a transfer and I think Rooney wants to think it through in his mind and I think that’s a good idea.

“We’re not going to let him go and I think maybe he’s a little bit frustrated after being taken off once or twice in the last few weeks.”
