Spurs star expects tough clash with Chelsea

The 28-year-old recently returned to action after having been out for 10 weeks with a an ankle ligament damage.

“Top teams like that – when they’ve had a little bit of a blip and they’re not playing as well as they normally do – sometimes they can just turn it on,” he said of their game against Chelsea.

“So it’s going to be a difficult game. Good that they’re not winning games but it’ll still be a difficult game.”

“The team’s come a long way, to be honest,” Defoe continued. “Last year set base really, beating the top teams.

“We’ve done it again, beating Arsenal and Liverpool.

“So we look forward to every game and we believe that – it doesn’t matter who we play against – we can win the game and get three points.

“I think it’s always important to have that winning mentality.

“The top sides always have it and I think we’ve definitely got that now.”
