Suarez admits offence but pleads for leniency

Luis Suarez has accepted a charge of violent conduct from the Football Association but believes the punishment should be no longer than three games.

Suarez is certain to miss the next three matches of Liverpool’s season but there is a possibility of him missing more than that as well unless his plea is successful.

In a statement the FA said: “Luis Suárez has accepted a charge of violent conduct, following an incident with Chelsea’s Branislav Ivanovic in Sunday’s fixture at Anfield.

“However, Suárez has denied the FA’s claim that the standard punishment of three matches is clearly insufficient for this offence. The incident was not seen by the match officials and has therefore been retrospectively reviewed.

“An independent regulatory commission will hear the case tomorrow, Wednesday, 24 April.”
