The Japanese star looked like a different player when he featured in a central role for United against Leverkusen. Kagawa showed us why Sir Alex Ferguson brought him to Old Trafford from Borussia Dortmund.
This is probably a good time to put in a bet and get good odds on Kagawa to become United’s player of the season, because if he continue like he did today, he will.
Kagawa has been used on the win by United boss David Moyes so far this season, but after this performance in a central role, he is giving his manager a selection problem.
Kagawa was named as man of the match by the United fans via Twitter after the match and he totally deserved it. He looked like a different player, when he featured in the role he impressed in at former club Borussia Dortmund.
Kagawa seems to bring just the creativity that has been needed in the central midfield at Old Trafford this season. His impressive movement played a key part in United’s win over the Bundesliga giants.
Moyes heaped praise on Kagawa after the game in Germany, as the Japanese midfielder showed exactly what he can do.
Moyes said: “I think Wayne had four assists tonight. He was very good and Shinji was terrific as well.
“It is a long season so we are going to make sure we have different combinations for different games.”
This will be a problem for Moyes, as he will be forced to play Kagawa behind the striker more often after this performance. But can he play with both Rooney and Van Persie as well as Kagawa at the same time? Moyes must find space for Kagawa as he can fill the role as the creative midfielder that United have been crying out for.
Kagawa has been linked with a return to Borussia Dortmund all season, but if he continues to perform like he did today United will be desperate to keep him at Old Trafford.
