Following a pretty dismal start to the season, United find themselves already out of the FA Cup and seemingly already out of the Premier League title race – at least according to the odds – currently languishing seventh in the table and in danger of losing
With the title already looking out of reach for United, the club will know how important it is to ensure they manage to finish in the top-four this season and qualify for next year’s Champions League, something the Betfair odds show isn’t anywhere near a certainty. Moyes, however, has made it clear he needs to add some new players to his struggling squad this January if his side are going to be able to turn around their disappointing campaign.
Despite reports of a bust-up between van Persie and Moyes earlier this season, the Dutch striker has made it clear he is convinced the Scotsman can succeed at Old Trafford stamp his own mark on the squad.
“I think he needs time like everyone, especially if you are new at such a big club,” Van Persie insisted.
“And to be fair, I don’t think people don’t understand that they have to give him a little bit more time, and I am talking about fans or even us. He will get that time and everyone is convinced that we will change things sooner than later.”
While the team have been way off the pace for much of this season, Moyes hasn’t been helped by injuries to a number of key players, most notably van Persie. The fit-again striker will now be essential to United’s hopes of salvaging something from this season.
