Hargreaves was set to make his comeback, after his 18 month absence following surgery on both knees, for the United reserves against Manchester City on Thursday night.
But Hargreaves missed the game as he went to see a specialist for the latest update.
“Owen went to see a specialist yesterday (Thursday),” said the United boss.
“There is nothing wrong and the idea is for him to play in the next game.
“He has to play in the next game because he is ready to play.”
United’s reserve side is set to face Burnley on Thursday.
