Jonny Evan’s tackle earned him a red card in the weekend clash, but Holden came off worse with a serious knee injury requiring 26 stitches.
Holden, 25, who will have surgery on Monday commented on Twitter:
“I can promise you all I will come back stronger and better than before.”
“I have had bad luck in the past and will continue to beat it.”
The midfielder, hailed by Bolton boss Owen Coyle as “one of the best midfielders in the Premier League”, also revealed he received a ‘sincere’ phone call and apology from Evans following the game.
