Murphy has been out with an ankle injury since the 4-0 defeat by Leeds in January.
He told the club’s website: “Recently I haven’t felt too bad and I’ve been like a kid in a sweet shop – just to be back on the training ground was exciting.”
He added: “I am out of contract at the end of the season and need to play some games before then so it is getting a little frustrating.”
