Owen has just returned to fitness and Waddle believes the former Liverpool and Real Madrid star can score the goals needed to keep the Magpies in the Premier League.
“Quite simply, he is the best in the business – even when he is not firing on all cylinders,” Waddle told the Sunday Mirror.
“If Newcastle can keep him even 95 per cent fit to play in their last eight games, then they will beat the drop, because he will score the goals to win them the important games. He will be their saviour.”
