Wickham has been linked with a move to the Magpies after impressing for Roy Keane’s side this season.
Hughton watched Ipswich’s 1-1 draw at Scunthorpe on Saturday and reports suggested he was interested in signing Wickham.
“There is absolutely nothing in it,” Hughton told the Evening Chronicle.
“I went to Scunthorpe on Saturday because it was one of the closest places to get to after training.”
