Hughes hits out at FA

Deflecting attention from his failure to galvanise QPR, Hughes showed a startling lack of knowledge of the goalline technology debate.

The FA came out in support of the technology after the game, reiterating a stance they have held for some time, and on which they voted last week to implement at an IFAB meeting.

Clearly Hughes wasn’t aware of this though, or simply ignored it, as he spoke as if it was solely down to the FA, which it is not.

“The laughable thing is that the FA have come out in support of goalline technology within an hour of the game finishing,” said Hughes. “It is absolutely ludicrous that they try to protect the poor performances of the officials that they supply. Until it comes in, actually do the job that the assistants are supposed to do: which is check whether or not the ball has gone over the line.”
