The new deal will Zaccheroni in charge through to the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
But there is a clause in Zaccheroni’s contract that will see himself out of a job if Japan fail to qualify for the World Cup.
Japan currently have seven points in Group B following victories against Oman and Jordan and a draw with Australia.
