Sheva scored the only goal of the match as AC Milan defeated Zurich 1-0 in the Uefa Cup on Thursday.
“I’m content, finally I managed to score,” said Shevchenko. “I thank the fans for supporting me, even today after I made a mistake at the beginning of the match.”
He continued: “I have always supported my team-mates and tried hard on the field. I thank them, as well as Carlo Ancelotti and all the medical staff.
“It seemed there was always something that i was doing to prevent the goal, but now it has finally come and it’s a great step forward for me. To score is important for a striker, but I still have plenty of work to do yet.”
