The 33-year-old’s current contract is set to expire at the end of the season.
Ambrosini has spent more than 15 years with the Rossoneri.
He said: “I’d stay, but this is something that needs to be discussed between both parties.
“When the right moment arrives then Milan will be obliged to make their intentions to me clear.
“We’ll have to just wait and see what happens, but I’m hopeful that a solution will be found.”
