The Los Angeles Galaxy star feels he needs to stay in Italy for the sake of his England career.
Beckham is currently on loan with AC Milan but is keen to make a permanent move to the Italian giants.
He said: “Fitness-wise, it has done me the world of good. I’m a lot fitter than I was a few months back, even in the month-and-a-half that I’ve been there my fitness has gone up 100 per cent.
“I’ve already said that I’d like to stay at AC Milan. Nothing against the Galaxy, I’ve had two great years there and there are some great players and great people there.
“I’m enjoying my football at AC Milan and hopefully I can stay there.
“I’ve been involved in the majority of the games since I’ve been at the Galaxy, but if I want to carry on playing at this level, which I do, I want to stay.”
