Benzema named France’s Player of the Year

Real Madrid star Karim Benzema has been named French Player of the Year for 2011.

Benzema has been rewarded by France Football magazine for his fine form in front of goal.

“When I see the former No.1s, the likes of (Zinedine) Zidane, (Thierry) Henry and other great players, it makes me feel proud,” Benzema told France Football on Tuesday.

Benzema has scored 32 times in 56 games for Real Madrid and France over the last 12 months.

“At the start of the year, we couldn’t imagine Karim would reach the level he’s at today,” Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho told France Football.

“But thanks to his hard work, his efforts, his character, he’s managed to achieve this new status.”
