The Three Lions were left with just ten-men after Robert Green was shown a red-card just 14 minutes into the game.
“I am very happy, I think this is another step forward, to improve and playing against 11 away was a really important game,” Capello told Sky Sports News.
“We tried to score goals, and we had three chances to draw level – I think all the players have played 100 per cent and this is very important for me, for us this wasn’t important for South Africa qualification but I liked the spirit of the team.
“The players don’t like to lose, playing against 11 we tried to draw, to win and in the last minute we had a chance to draw.
“I don’t like to lose, but you have to understand why and find out where we made some mistakes and where we are positive – I am positive still after this game.”
