Combe closing in on new Kilmarnock deal

Kilmarnock manager Jim Jefferies wants the 34-year-old to sign a new deal after a superb start to this season.

“We’ve had a brief chat with Alan about a new deal and he’ll think about it,” Jefferies told the Daily Record.

“His contract is up at the end of the season but we have the option of another year so we are just trying to get it all tied up.

“These things can drag on for a few meetings but we’d like to get it tied up quickly. Everyone appreciates the form Alan has been in.

“He’s been unlucky not to get a shout from Scotland.

“There’s not a keeper alive that doesn’t lose daft goals because it’s a hard job but Alan has pulled us out of holes more often than he has cost us.

“It speaks volumes about what I think of Alan that I put him in at the start of the season after he came back from injury.

“Damien Rascle had been outstanding during the pre-season games while Alan was forced to sit on the sidelines.

“But when it came to the first game of the season when Alan had come through a week of training, I put him in because he’s been there and done it.

“He wanted to prove I made the right decision and he has.”
