England can qualify for Euro 2008 if they manage to get a win or a draw against Croatia on Wednesday.
He told The Sun: “Since I’ve been in the England squad, there’s always been a big game that qualification hinges on. We have always managed to do it and, hopefully, we will do it again.
“We know that the atmosphere on Wednesday night will be frightening now we have a chance to go through. That will work in our favour, that will lift the lads.
“I sat down to watch the Israel game hoping for the best, like most people I suppose.
“We know what difficult opponents Israel can be but I think most pundits fancied Russia to get a result.
“However, I always thought the longer the game went on that maybe things would go in our favour.
“Now we have been given another chance to qualify.
“It’s back in our hands and we have to make sure that we take full advantage.”
