Holland boss proud of his team

Holland managed to beat Uruguay 3-2 in the semi-final of the World Cup in South Africa.

“The first thing that springs to mind is that we’ve done it. It was our goal to win the World Cup when I was appointed as Holland coach and we’re extremely close now,” said Van Marwijk to NOS.

“This is such an incredible feeling. I agree that our performance wasn’t too special, but all that counts is that we’ve won the match.

“We made a good start to the game, but we lost the initiative after we scored the opener. We were back in control after the interval though. We created several chances to put the match to bed, but our finishing was sloppy and we became very tense in the end.

“It has been 32 years since Netherlands last made it to the World Cup final. I have thought about the 1970s a lot lately. The lads have every reason to be proud with their performance.”
