Coloccini suffered the injury during Sunday’s 3-1 Premier League win at West Brom.
He told Spanish radio station Marca: “I suffered a pull and I will be out of the team for between two and three weeks.
“I will try to recover as well as possible so that I will not suffer the same injury when I return.
“The priority at Newcastle is the health of the players, although we always want to play as soon as possible.”
