The under 21 team have struggled to qualify from a tough group involving Spain, Czech Republic and Ukraine.
Pearce said: “There’s a naivety to suggest that every time England, Spain or France or whoever end up playing nations who do not look so big on paper, then they should win – we’re very blinkered on our shores at times to the quality that there is around Europe.”
