Podolski was heavily criticised by the Germany fans after the 1-0 win over Belgium last Friday.
“I’m perfectly aware of the fact that my performance against Belgium was far from impressive. However, it’s very hard for the coach not to include me in the starting XI when I’m at my best,” said Podolski to Bild.
“I know that we have some exciting talents coming through who can all play in my position. However, I’ve already shown in the past at big tournaments that I always perform at the right moment. I will continue to do so in the future, starting with the match against Azerbaijan.”
