Pompey will be unable to make any new signings for the foreseeable future, due to the embargo.
Premier League spokesman Dan Johnson said: “We can confirm that there is an embargo on Portsmouth registering any new players.”
Reports suggests the ban was given to Pompey due to unpaid instalments to clubs over previous transfers.
