Portugal controlled the match from start to end as Queiroz made his debut as coach for the national side.
“I think this was a fair win in a game that was a one-way street, we had a lot of worries as Malta’s counter-attack is very strong and their attacking players caused some problems,” he told TVI.
“We did not start very well, we took some time to get used to the pitch and we made several passing mistakes at the beginning. But the players started gaining trust little by little, they were not scared and they kept insisting until things finally went well.
“They ended up playing good football and the goals came naturally… I am pleased.”
