A report in Westdeutschen Allgemeinen Zeitung says Schalke are on the verge of signing the youngster.
Schalke have made plenty of signings in the January transfer window including Edu, Alexander Baumjohann, Peer Kluge, Bogdan Mueller, Hao Junmin, Besart Ibraimi and Tore Reginiussen.
But head coach Felix Magath is also keen on signing 20-year-old Gavranovic before the transfer window closes.
