Robbie Keane and Kevin Doyle scored the goals for the Irish in a game where Trapattoni felt Cyprus were worthy of a draw.
“We are happy with this victory. We played well for 20 minutes but then lost our confidence. Our opponents put us under a lot of pressure and Cyprus deserved a draw,” he said.
“This was a difficult game because Cyprus are a good team with good players. The goal was lucky but I had a feeling Robbie would score even though he wasn’t playing well.”
