United States edges by Trinidad and Tobago

While the United States’ 2-0 victory over Trinidad and Tobago has clinched a spot in the Gold Cup quarterfinals for the American side, it has not allayed concerns about the team’s performance.

Brian Ching put the US on the board with a goal in the twenty-ninth minute and Eddie Johnson put away the second goal off of a Landon Donovan pass in the fifty-fourth. The assist saw Donovan set a new team record for most career points, as he moved up to a total of 85 GP, one point ahead of Eric Wynalda.

Despite the US’ victory, coach Bob Bradley voiced concerns about his team’s unremarkable display. In a post-game interview with the Associated Press, Bradley told reporters that he was “disappointed in the team”. Bradley went on to add that “We had good chances, and I think we had opportunities to score two more goals.”

The US will play their last preliminary-round match against El Salvador on Tuesday on the New England Revolution’s home field in Foxborough, Massachusetts.
