The 26-year-old’s current contract is set to expire at the end of next season.
“First and foremost, I’m happy at the club and have loved the last few seasons,” said Whittaker.
“I feel like I have done well and come into my own. I’m comfortable playing and enjoying my football.
“I’ve got a year on my deal to run and what happens will happen. If the club want to come and talk, things like that can happen. But I’m happy here and still have another year left.
“There is nothing better than winning trophies and being successful and we have done that since Walter came back to the club.
“I’ve enjoyed every minute of it and hopefully that can continue over the next couple of seasons as well.”
