Auxerre boss delighted with win over St Etienne

Fernandez was pleased with his side’s display in the game.

“We played much better as the match progressed against St Etienne,” the coach told Francefootball.fr after the game.

“The penalty scored by Benoit Pedretti put us in a good position for the remainder of the game.

“We played well in the first half, but made it more difficult for ourselves in the second like we have in recent weeks. It was easier for us to wait for our opponents, and then try to counter, as you have to watch the offensive capabilities of St Etienne.

“We feared this match because Etienne are a strong and physical side, but we have some good momentum going our way.

“Competing in a semi-final at home will be wonderful.”
