Coppell almost quit Reading when they were relegated from the Premier League last season.
The Royals’ boss current contract expires in the summer.
“As yet we haven’t had any discussions about a new contract for Steve, but we will,” said director of football Nicky Hammond.
“It’s not him or us dodging the issue.”
